13 Mature Age Trainees Employed in Aged Care

13 mature age trainees have been engaged by My Care Solution after graduating from the ‘Preparing to Care’ Pre-Traineeship program this week.

The program forms part of My Care Solution’s Mature Age Traineeship in Aged Care, a $132,000 Skilling South Australia project that aims to re-skill people aged 45 and over to work in the aged care industry. Registered training organisation Enable College is also a partner in the initiative.

“Our Mature Age Traineeship differs from traditional aged care traineeships with participants first completing the Preparing to Care course to ensure they are truly suited to the demands of the role,” said Executive Director, Mark McBriarty.

“This front-end to our traineeship allows participants to complete a few modules of the Certificate III in Individual Support together with modules of our in-house training program to get a feel for the industry.”

Graduate Emma Davis pursued the Mature Age Traineeship following a long and rewarding career in customer service. “I am eager to reskill as I would like to be in a nurturing environment where my caring and compassionate qualities can be shared,” Emma said.

“The Preparing to Care program has given me the opportunity to gain a professional introduction into the role of a Caregiver with My Care Solution. The course has been a mixture of theory and practical learning with passionate teachers and industry leaders who share their own experiences. As a mature age student, it has been a comfortable environment that has given me the chance to decide if the career is for me with ongoing support and mentoring.”

Graduates will now undertake 10 months of study and on-the-job learning to complete their Certificate III in Individual Support. Following the completion of the Traineeship, all graduates will be offered ongoing employment with My Care Solution or a partnered provider.

“Every graduating participant has shown the compassion, dedication and skill needed to make a difference in this industry,” Mark McBriarty said.

“We are pleased to welcome them to the My Care Solution team as Trainees.”
