Mature Workers Welcome at My Care Solution

My Care Solution is cutting a path to success for mature aged workers and seeks up to 150 new staff for its operations across the Fleurieu and through to the Barossa Valley.

Around 90 per cent of those jobs are for caregivers and My Care Solution executive director Mark McBriarty said it was seeking older workers with the type of skills gained from caring for their own loved ones and their communities.

“A key to our growth as a leading care provider is being able to get the right people and maintain the workforce”, Mark said.

“We specialize in mature aged employment…the ‘Farewell Career’ and we’re proud that we have great caregivers up to and including an 81-year-old.”

“People want to work for people that care about them as well as their clients. And that’s what we do at My Care Solution, and what we are being recognized for, including, importantly, by our staff.”

Mark said with half of the long-term unemployment being aged over 55, My Care Solution was spreading the message that the skills that cohort possess from raising a family and caring for family were skills that were in demand.

“We seek those people with that skill set and that attitude to caring. We bring them in and wrap some training around them and it makes them very valuable as workers in this sector,” Mark said.

That training includes the My Care Solution Preparing to Care Program, developed with Skilling SA and aimed at the mature aged worker. A recent course had 24 graduates with an average age of 56.

Dedicated carer Denise Weidenhofer, 61, said she had found her calling at My Care Solution.

“I will be eternally grateful to My Care solution for giving me the employment opportunities they have particularly as I doubted back when I started my abilities as amore mature worker,” said the Victor Harbor-based carer who has been with My Care Solution for 7 years.

“It has been an amazing journey and I now realise the importance of what I can bring to the workplace. I absolutely love what I do an am so thankful for the support of everyone in our workplace.

“I am also very proud of the fact that we have grown so much and that we continue to care for so many ageing people in our community.”

“I get up in the morning and I don’t feel like I am going to work. It is rewarding, there’s respect, gratitude and the love that you give and get in return is tremendous.”

“I love it. This is my calling.”

The diversity of the work Denise and her My Care Solution colleagues do is great and ranges from driving clients to appointments, shopping and cleaning for them, being company and attending outings and lunching with them, right through to dementia care and palliative care.
